Newborn Session | Miss Madelynn

Meet Maddie!

Sweet Girl was just shy of two weeks new on the morning of our session. She just might be figuring out her nights and days, as she was very reluctant to settle down and nap for us — but that’s perfectly fine, as we were able to catch an ‘awake’ grin!We did get her to nod off into a sweet sleep for just a little while. Oh, she is so precious!! :)

Maternity Session | Amber & Matt

Beautiful Amber is due later this month with their first child, a sweet little girl! The name Amber and Matt have chosen is top-secret, but not for much longer! I am excited to take Baby Girl’s newborn photos after she arrives – she will no doubt be gorgeous like her parents and have a name that is equally as lovely. :)

See you soon, Amber and Matt! All the best to you as you welcome your Little Miss!

Prom | Miss Julisa

Julisa’s mom contacted me a while back about doing a session strictly devoted to Julisa getting ready for and then leaving for her senior prom. What a special event! While this session was out of the ‘norm’ for me, I fully enjoyed the evening! Julisa became a radiant princess, and she and her date Trey were just absolutely hilarious. I mean, why NOT have a bit of a photo session in the middle of the street, in formal attire, striking all sorts of poses?

They left for prom in a horse-drawn carriage. Um, awesome!!! :)

Julisa, I hope you had a most magical evening! Congrats on your upcoming graduation!

Newborn Session | Mr. Cooper

Meet the newest addition to the H family, little Cooper!I had the privilege of photographing big brother Carson as a newborn a little over two years ago, and I was thrilled that JoDee and Sean wanted me to capture sweet Cooper during his first days as well! We enjoyed a laid-back morning yesterday catching photos while we could — with the help of some snakes, lizards and frogs (maybe even some Bugs, too). Thank goodness they were of the plastic and cinematic variety! :) Cooper, at just five days new, was wide awake for a while at the beginning but I think we finally wore him out. What a sweet family!!

Family Session | One Big Happy…

Meet the Polk family! There is so much love, personality, teamwork, beauty and faith in this not-so-little family. I’ve known them for quite some time and I’m not at all exaggerating when I say it was an honor to capture them all together. Their oldest daughter will soon be graduating from high school, so they wanted to snag some family photos while she was still at home.We had some fun with everyone together, just the guys, just the girls, just the siblings, just the Mr. & Mrs. (and oh my, do I want a shot like that of my hubby and myself!), Mama and her oldest baby, the big kids, the little kids… and so much more! I wish I could share the whole gallery with you, but that would spoil some of the surprise for the Polk’s. :)

Enjoy what’s here!Thank you, Polk family, for meeting with me! You were such a joy to spend a morning with, and ‘shoot’! :)

Newborn Session | Miss Emily

Meet Miss Emily Rae!

Emily was exactly one week new on the day of our session. She is an absolute beauty! I had such a great time with her and her adoring parents. Emily joins a family full of fun with two older (sure to be protective) brothers and a host of loving extended family members.Living in “boy world” in my home, it’s often special for me to walk into a sweet baby girl’s room all decked out in pink, pink, and more pink. Emily’s room had pink in spades! She also already had a bow and headband collection that many other little girls would be envious of. :) We were able to work some special pieces into the photos, such as the baby ring from her grandmother in the photo above, and her aunt’s favorite headband in the photo below. She’s sure to be a daddy’s girl. ;) Miss Emily, I very much enjoyed meeting you. You are bringing so much joy and happiness to those who love you!

Family Session | Smullen Family

Meet the Smullen family! This beautiful crew has been in front of my camera before, but it’s been nearly two years! I enjoyed getting to see them all again!I couldn’t resist this one below. I had asked the kiddos to “help me make mommy and daddy smile” while I was taking some shots of just the Mr. and Mrs., and they did a GREAT job! I think they’re hired! ;)

Thank you, Smullens, for a wonderful session! SO good to see you again!!

My Cup Overflows

I’m about to dive into one of those topics that may or may not be considered ‘taboo’ in business. However, it’s  a large part of who I am, and I’d like to share a piece of my heart.

For quite some time, I have wrestled with how to bless others with what I have been blessed with myself. How do I use the talents and treasures that I have been given in order to somehow make this world a better place? Better yet, how do I use my gifts to make someone’s life better — possibly for all eternity?

As a Christ-follower, my perspective is just that — on eternity, on Christ. I am asked to look after others in their need and distress, to love others, and to share His words and grace. I have been given an incredible opportunity to do just that through Sara Griffin Photography. My battle was “how”?

Two Christmas seasons ago, in 2010, my church participated in Advent Conspiracy. We’ve participated in it for three years now, and this was the second year. That year, the beneficiary was As Our Own. I sat each Sunday in church during the Advent season with tears in my eyes, thinking of various conditions these little girls must have been found in before going to live at one of the homes. My mind’s eye imagined incredible horrors which were only too common for them; how would they ever know peace? Joy? Security? My mama’s heart beat so strongly for these girls, and for their mothers too. I started following the As Our Own website and blog, periodically checking for more photos and stories. The photos are incredibly stirring. The beauty and the darkness that coexists in the region is immense. The question I began to ask (really, I feel it was God who put the question there in the first place) is “What can I do?”

As Our Own does not do direct sponsorships of children, but they do rely on donations to care for the children. As time went on, I have desired to not only help with As Our Own’s ministry, but to also be able to pray for a child in India by name, and to somehow watch her grow — somehow be a part of her life, somehow helping her to know Christ and to know joy. It was always a girl… I guess as a mom to three boys, I need some ‘pink’ in my life. :)

The answer has always been there. To whom much is given, much is expected. I have been given so much — my cup overflows. I am surrounded by love, family, guidance, protection, material blessings, and so much more. I have a small photography business that is doing better than I could have asked or imagined. Through this overflow of abundance, I am able to give.

Each month, a portion of Sara Griffin Photography’s profits are used to help support As Our Own. A portion of Sara Griffin Photography’s profits are also used (through Compassion International) to support the growth, education, and development of a precious girl, “J”, who resides in India.

Please meet sweet J. Today is her birthday! She is seven years old. I’d like to think she looks a bit like I did at that age, although I had much lighter skin and incredibly blonde hair – but we do have the braids and brown eyes in common. ;)

Thank you for allowing me to be obedient and help others. I am so excited to watch J grow, all because of the blessings you’ve given me.
